It's nice to see that you're so unashamedly enthusiastic about Christmas, Kid. I get so sick of hearing that Christmas is "for the children" or "about family" - I haven't got any kids and my closest relatives are all deceased but I still look forward to Christmas and make an effort (too much of an effort as I've bought too much food as usual ). All that children and families cr*p was invented in the Victorian era anyway and the people who insist it's all for the children seem to buy plenty of booze which is not for the children I assume.
I see what you're saying and I agree with it to an extent, CJ, but I think that what people mean is Christmas SHOULD be for children - to those who have children that is. I don't think they mean that adults shouldn't ENJOY it, only that they shouldn't hijack it in the way that they do by turning it into a booze-fest. It really is far too commercial these days and should be on a smaller, more intimate (families, loved ones, etc.,) scale.
